SportsbookWire.com has beginner bettors covered. Our legal online sports betting 101 guide for new bettors explains how to bet on the moneyline, against the spread and the Over/Under. We’ll also break down how to read odds in search of value on the betting odds and lines, and discuss the advantages of mobile betting when looking to bet the Giants this season.
New York Giants’ 2019 betting results
The Giants struggled to a 4-12 record last season, going 4-12 straight up on the moneyline. They were favored in just five games and went 3-2 outright in those games.
Big Blue fared slightly better against the spread with a 7-9 record against the projected line. They lost by 6.9 points per game in 2019 and failed to cover the spread by an average of 3.1 PPG.
A 30th-ranked defense with 28.2 points allowed per game contributed to their 10-6 record against the Over/Under. Their games topped the projected point total by 4.2 PPG with the opposition doing the bulk of the scoring.
How to bet on the Giants: Bet types
Moneyline (ML) betting
The moneyline is the first stop of sports bettors as the easiest way to get betting action on a game. Pick one team to beat the other. Odds are impacted by the NFL standings, recent performance, injuries and historical head-to-head records. Books will also adjust the odds and lines throughout the week based on which side is drawing the largest share of the betting action.
Home teams are often given an innate edge in the NFL, but that could change for the Giants (and New York Jets) in 2020. There will be no fans permitted at MetLife Stadium this season. The G-Men shared the second-worst home record in 2019 at 2-6.
Against the spread (ATS) betting
Moneyline bets are best for backing underdogs to win outright in an upset as there’s greater profit with a winning ticket. The spread is how to bet favorites.
A point spread sets a line (i.e. 3.5) for how many points a favorite will need to win by or the underdog will need to stay within in a loss for the bet to cash. The odds can be skewed in an attempt to steer betting action but are generally set equally on both sides of the line.
Example: The Giants opened as 3-point home underdogs against the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 1. They would need to lose by 1 or 2 points or win outright in order for an ATS bet to cash. The Steelers would need to win by 4 or more points. Both teams have -110 odds on either side.

Over/Under (O/U) betting
Betting the Over/Under, or total points scored by both teams, asks for how many points the two teams will combine to score in a game. It can be a good place to look as a neutral viewer or when trying to eliminate personal bias.
NFL point totals typically range from the low 40s to mid-50s but can extend in either direction based on the matchup, injuries or television slot. Like with spreads, the odds are typically equal for both the Over and Under, but they can differ in an attempt to draw in more bets on a particular side.
How to bet on the Giants: Understanding odds
Moneyline favorites can range from -125 to -455 (or lower) early in the season. A $10 bet would return a profit of $8 or $2.20, respectively. The latter is referred to as a chalk play and is best avoided as the return isn’t worth the risk.
Underdogs can be +105 to +350 for profits of $10.50 and $35, respectively, on a $10 bet. All odds can extend further in either direction later in the season as separation grows in the standings.
Spread and Over/Under odds are typically kept within a tighter range of -120 to +120, but are typically set at an equal -110 on either side. The 10-cent loss on a winning bet is how the sportsbook makes its money as what’s called the juice or vig.
How to bet on the Giants: Live/mobile betting
BetMGM has a terrific mobile sports betting app, which will surely be a second-screen trend for Giants fans in 2020 and beyond. Sports bets can be placed anywhere, anytime leading up to and after the opening kickoff. The ability to place wagers on live, updated odds allows bettors to double-down on pregame bets or flip sides based on the early results.
Scoring plays, big gains, turnovers or injuries affect the lines and odds in either direction. Following along with the game and knowing when the live odds don’t match the eye test is a great way to get value and beat the book. Acting early before the book has time to adjust the odds is even better.

Money Lines
New Jersey Online Sports Betting
Sports books usually set points to a given game. A money line bet involves a player placing his wager based on the points or odds that are set by the operator. For instance, if team A (-150) happens to be playing with team B (+130), then the bettors should wager $100 in order to win $130 if team B wins or $150 to win $100 if team A wins.
Parlay
A parlay bet requires the player to place multiple bets instead of just one. In order to win real cash on such a bet, all your predictions need to be true. It might be risky, but the beauty is that upon winning, the payoffs are quite lucrative. Additionally, the initial bet amount is quite friendly given the high odds.
Spread
Here, the bettor bets on his or her favorite based on pre-set points. If they win by surpassing those points, then the bettor wins some profitable rewards.
Futures
As the name suggests, this is a futuristic kind of bet where a bettor wagers on a player or team, where the results are expected at a later date. A great example here is betting on your favorite team to win in the Super Bowl even before the season has started.
Teasers
With a teaser bet option, you can adjust a game’s point spread. The catch here is that the operator gives you less odds. To keep things interesting, this wager comes in Parlay format. What this means is that a 4-point teaser would require a bettor to make the same adjustment they make on one bet to all the other three bets.
Over/Under
This refers to a bet in which the bettor predicts that the game’s overall score will either be over or under the cumulative points of both teams scores or goals.
New Jersey Legal Sports Betting Websites
Round Robin
If you are more risk averse, then this right here is the gamble you need to consider. Unlike the parlay, a round robin does not require for all your choices to win. Here, the player creates three different parlays, each containing two teams. This is a less risky gamble, and its payouts are considerably less than those of a conventional parlay.
In-game
In play betting has been the new kid on the block for quite some time now. In this type of bet, a player has the luxury of placing their wager even after the game has started. This betting option is highly engaging and exciting as things happen right in the moment!
